Q:Why do we need KinAlert?
A:

As our loved ones age, we grow concerned with their safety and well being as their mobility, cognition, or health declines.  KinAlert allows family members to actively or passively monitor their loved ones daily routines without being intrusive or disruptive, thus preserving their loved ones dignity and independence, and giving them peace of mind.  In case of an emergency, if the system cannot connect with you, it will call out for emergency services to dispatch. 

Q:Do we have to commit to a contract?
A:

No!  Everyone's needs are different, therefore you purchase only the hardware which is right for you.  Since the length of each persons independence will also vary, you only subscribe to the interactive services for as long as needed.

Q:How much does it cost initially?
A:

Each home and client will have unique mix of sensors to create the right security blanket of information.  Most systems will start under $1000 and even a fully featured system will be a fraction of a months fees in a seniors care facility, this initial cost is a ONE TIME set up fee for the equipment.  The monthly monitoring going forward starts at $50/month. 

Q:Are there monthly fees?
A:

The power of KinAlert is the interactive services and notifications available to caregivers and loved ones. While there is a monthly fee to provide these services starting at $50/mo, there is no contract or fixed term with our system.

Q:Do you offer payment Plans?
A:

We don't want pricing to be a barrier to giving your loved one independence in their home.  We have multiple options when it comes to a payment plan.  We will find something with works best for your family.

Q:Do you offer different Packages?
A:

Yes we do!  We have 3 different packages to choose from.  These packages however, can be modified to suit your families needs.  We have other offerings to add to these packages also, these can give your family a more complete peace of mind solution (visit "What is KinAlert" page, then scroll down to "More Advantages").  We can email you details on all these packages and add on options, just send us an inquiry! Q:How can KinAlert help my child with special needs live independently?
A:

KinAlert will change your life and more importantly theirs.  KinAlert gives them the independence they want and need, while giving you the tools to make sure they are safe.  It will allow you to know that their regular routines, that need to be done on a daily basis, are being done.  Call us to ask how we can tailor KinAlert to best serve your families needs for an independent, comfortable lifestye.

Q:Mom/Dad are worried that their family members won't call them as much if they have the KinAlert system installed!?
A:

Some loved ones may worry that they will stop hearing from their family members once the system is installed. Not to worry!  We find KinAlert offers an invitation for families to stay more in touch with each other.  A simple notification that there hasn’t been movement during the day for a period of time may spark a phone call to them.  All the meanwhile, they have just been enjoying a good movie.  In the end, a nice 5 or 10 minute phone chat to check in has happened.  A nice catch up during the day when one may not have normally happened.

Q:My Mom/Dad does not want camera's everywhere, should they be concerned?
A:

Absolutely not!  KinAlert uses various sensors to detect if a person is in a room, opens a door, fridge or cabinet, or is in bed or their favourite chair.  These sensors are NOT cameras and have no video capabilities, and are sufficient for the majority of seniors who still are independent and expect their privacy.  As needs change, cameras are sometimes added to common areas for falls such as basement stairs, garages or exterior steps.

Q:My mother takes great pride in the appearance of her home. What do the KinAlert sensors look like?
A:

All of the sensors are designed to be discrete and non intrusive.  And because they work on wireless technologies, no wires need to be run and no holes drilled.

Q:Mom/Dad do not have Internet access at their home. Is this an issue?
A:

Not at all.  Internet access is not required for almost all of KinAlerts services.

Q:Can my siblings also be notified and have access?
A:

Yes, notifications can be sent to anyone the family desires via text, email, or push notifications.

Q:What happens if the hydro goes out?
A:

The KinAlert system features integral battery backup to provide continued protection during even extended power outages.  And because the system communicates over wireless cellular signals, even phone line or internet disruptions won't prevent the system from communicating.  An automatic notification can also be sent when a power outage occurs so you can check in with your loved one and ensure they're ok.

Q:What are these notifications you keep referring to?
A:

Notifications are the result of a set of instructions on how you want to be made aware of your loved ones situation.  If a basement is an area of concern, a notification can alert you as soon as the door is opened.  If mom is supposed to take her medication by 9am, a notification can let you know if the medicine cabinet hasn't opened by that time.  KinAlert staff will assist and suggest notifications which might be most appropriate for your loved one.  Remember - If the system cannot contact you in the case of an emergency button being pressed, it will automatically call out for emergency services.

Q:Can I change the notifications after it is all set up?
A:

Absolutely.  It is very easy to log on to your own personal configuration page on the KinAlert website and change who gets notified, and what generates a notification.

Q:Does the house need something special to make this all work?
A:

No!  The only requirement is cellular service in your area.  The sensors are wireless and do not require any retrofitting of wires.

Q:Mom/Dad has a panic alert pendant she wears, do we still need KinAlert then?
A:

KinAlert is designed to go beyond the functionality of a basic panic alert pendant. Pendants require the senior to wear the device, and be able to press it.  KinAlert can provide notifications when the senior doesn't do something like open the fridge by a certain time or day or leave their bed for an extended period.  Worn pendants and stationary panic buttons are also part of the KinAlert system to provide immediate notification of an emergency when the senior is able to press it.

Q:Can KinAlert be used for my child who has special needs?
A:

Definitely.  Persons with mobility challenges and special needs can benefit in all the same ways a senior can from KinAlert.

Q:Can KinAlert be used for our teen children so we can keep an eye on them when they are home alone?
A:

Yes.  Notifications can be sent when they come home or leave, when friends press the doorbell or if a liquor cabinet has been opened.

Q:Will our family pet interfere with the system?
A:

Not at all, the system is smart enough to detect the difference between humans moving about the house and your 4-legged family members.

Q:My parents aren't good with technology. What do they need to do?
A:

Nothing!  The KinAlert system is designed to work with zero intersection from the senior.  They live their life as usual completely as usual.  Only if they choose a optional worn pendant or stationary panic button, similar to what they may already be accustomed to, do they need to press any thing. 

Q:Who can access all the information we will receive from KinAlert?
A:

Only people who are given a username and password by the family will have access to the secure website and mobile app.  Family members can be given different levels of access and control to dictate who receives notifications only, or has full administrative permissions.
